Shower Glass Maintenance: Keeping Your Enclosure Clean and Clear

A frameless glass shower enclosure looks incredible when it’s clean and somewhat less incredible when it’s coated in soap scum and hard water deposits. The good news is that keeping shower glass looking great doesn’t require constant effort — it requires the right habits.

Squeegee After Every Shower

The single most effective thing you can do to keep shower glass clean is squeegee it after every shower. It takes about thirty seconds and removes the water droplets that, when left to dry, deposit the minerals that cause hard water staining. This one habit dramatically reduces how often you need to deep clean.

Use the Right Cleaner

Standard bathroom cleaning sprays work fine for routine cleaning. For hard water deposits, a product with mild acid (like a diluted white vinegar solution) breaks down mineral buildup without damaging the glass or the seals. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scrub pads that can scratch glass.

Consider a Protective Coating

Hydrophobic coatings applied to shower glass cause water to bead and sheet off rather than sit on the surface. Some glass enclosures come factory-treated. You can also apply an aftermarket treatment that lasts for months. Ask about this when you’re purchasing your Fleurco or other glass enclosure.

Seal and Hardware Maintenance

Check the rubber seals around your glass enclosure annually. Seals that have dried, cracked, or shrunk allow water to escape the enclosure. Replacing seals is inexpensive and extends the life of the installation significantly.
